On December 4th at Cairo Jazz Club 610, join us in celebrating a decade since the release of Maurice Louca’s game-changing sophomore album, Benhayyi Al Baghbaghan (Salute the Parrot). Surreal, stirring, and hard-hitting, the album burst onto the Egyptian underground scene, inspiring Louca’s contemporaries and a younger generation of regional producers. Some of these artists will share the bill on this special evening, as the record continues to serve as a source of imaginative and fervent inspiration. Performing are El Kontessa, 3Phaz, El Waili, and the iconic Maryam Saleh, Louca’s collaborator on the seminal Lekhfa. In a major highlight, Louca will perform Benhayyi Al Baghbaghan live for the first time since the album’s last tour in 2017.

 Released on Nawa Recordings in 2014, Benhayyi Al Baghbaghan garnered widespread acclaim, earning spots on critics’ year-end lists and spinning in venues from Beirut to Berlin. Its impact was so profound that it even helped shape the creation of Simsara Music. Founder Sarah El Miniawy’s experience as the album’s publicist 10 years ago inspired her decision to focus exclusively on music from the region. Today, Simsara is thrilled to mark this milestone with an evening celebrating artists whose energy and innovation continue to shape Cairo’s dynamic music scene.
